Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Thursday that the ministry could suspend an additional 20 trains to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
At a press conference in the federal capital of Islamabad, the minister said that passengers on the railway are being checked.
The Prime Minister is fully aware of the situation and said that the cleaning systems have been improved at all railway stations.
Sheikh Rashid also said that from March 22, the work of 12 trains will be suspended. However, a meeting is also scheduled for March 25, at which a plan to suspend another 20 trains will be considered.
Earlier, Pakistan Railways announced the temporary suspension of 12 trains amid concerns about Coronavirus. Minister of Federal Railways Sheikh Rashid said earlier that all eight trains will be suspended from March 25. He said the decision was made at the request of the Sindh government. The federal minister explained that the company’s financial situation is not good enough to reimburse passengers for money; however, alternative measures will be taken for them.
