On Thursday, the Sindh government released 829 prisoners accused of minor crimes in various jails in the province during the COVID-19 outbreak. The list includes only those prisoners who have completed their sentences but have not paid their fines.
Earlier, Sinda Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah, speaking to the media, said the Sindh government wanted to reduce the number of prisoners in various jails, which contain more than 16,000 people. Similarly, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has already ordered the release of more than 400 prisoners.
It should be noted that in Pakistan there are 114 prisons with 77,275 prisoners against 57,742 prisoners. According to Amnesty International, the vast majority of prisoners are prisoners under investigation who have not been convicted of any crime.
