Najam Sethi has been appointed chair of the PCB by Prime Minister Shehbaz.
The appointment of Najam Sethi as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was accepted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, according to Geo News, citing sources within the organization.
According to sources familiar with the situation, there will be an announcement of a change in the PCB board of governors today.
According to unnamed government officials, the Prime Minister’s Office will issue four announcements on the appointment.
They only plan to send one notice about the cricket board’s 2019 constitution being thrown out.
The second will declare the withdrawal of the 2019 constitution’s nomination of two candidates for chairman, and the third will reinstate the 2014 constitution.
The fourth notice will communicate a “setup” to manage the current board.
Speculations about a possible successor to current PCB chief Ramiz Raja surfaced multiple times. Despite this, he had previously shot down the allegations and insisted he had no plans to “move anyplace.”
As time passed, news spread that the present government had chosen to remove the chairmanship of the PCB from its position.
Raja, however, had called PCB employees to inform them that he had received the government’s “green signal” to resume operations.
Raja had already informed PCB employees, “I have been told to continue working as [the] PCB chairman.”
On September 13, 2021, during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration, the former Pakistan captain was elected chairman of the cricket board without opposition.
After Ehsan Mani’s three-year stint as PCB president ended, the position became vacant.
