The News reported on Wednesday that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is debating hiring legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar as the national team’s bowling consultant.

Following Shahid Afridi’s appointment to the PCB executive committee, the cricket board is considering contacting the right-arm bowler for his knowledge of the sport.

According to rumors, Akhtar may soon be assigned a crucial role for the national team.

According to sources, the former top pacer has already been approached and has expressed interest in helping to raise the level of play among the players.

Najam Sethi, the head of the PCB management committee, will soon meet with Akhtar in Lahore. The former pacer is most likely to receive a job offer from PCB during the meeting.

Sources claim that Akhtar had expressed interest in having a significant involvement in the board’s policy-making.

The bowler, popularly known as Rawalpindi Express, had raised his voice numerous times to urge the Pakistani side to improve after he retired from cricket.

The 47-year-old former right-arm bowler holds the record for bowling the fastest delivery in cricket history, clocking it at 161.3 kph.

Afridi was also chosen by the PCB Management Committee to serve as the temporary chair of the selection committee for the home series against New Zealand.

Sethi presided over the decision-making process after the government confirmed his appointment to lead the PCB.

Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will also be on the panel, and Haroon Rashid, a member of the management committee, will serve as the convener.
