Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the concerned authorities to take concrete steps to increase the country’s IT exports from $2.6 billion to $15 billion in the next three years.

The prime minister presided over a meeting on the promotion of information technology. He also directed that IT professionals be increased from 0.6 million to 1.5 million. The prime minister directed the Higher Education Commission, universities, and training institutes to prioritize the achievement of the target and improve the education curriculum in line with market needs.

The prime minister also established a permanent committee to examine the relationship between the Pakistani government and the IT sector and to address concerns facing that sector. This committee would include representatives from the IT industry, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the finance ministry.

 He also encouraged the IT industry’s export revenue to Pakistan. The prime minister instructed the Federal Board of Revenue, the State Bank of Pakistan, and other departments to implement effective measures.

 He stated that the IT sector was there to support the government in improving the country’s economy. The Prime minister stated that IT entrepreneurs played an essential role in the promotion and growth of the IT sector. The country’s IT exports did not match the talent.

He stated that the government would recognize those exporters who have played their part in enhancing IT exports. Representatives of the IT sector informed the prime minister about their concerns and offered suggestions. Senior government officials, IT industry leaders, federal ministers Ishaq and Aminul Haq, and advisor Ahad Cheema were present at meeting.
